Cibolo roads are in a constant & consistent state of disrepair. They are decrepit & an outright embarrassment to Cibolo residents & their guests, potential businesses, & future homeowners. We must make fixing the roads our #1 priority. In my district, we need to widen Green Valley Road beyond Cibolo Valley Elementary school all the way down to Town Creek road to match the widening & improvement efforts that were already completed from FM 1103 to the elementary school. SCUCISD owns land on Green Valley Road & they plan to build & open a new Junior High School for our children. I would like to see Cibolo partner with SCUCISD to make widening & improving Green Valley Road, in its entirety, a priority in the near term.
Dean road, in District 5 is full of pot holes & has manhole covers that protrude above the road surface. We need to repave this road & add divider lines & bike lanes. Often times I see bicyclers on Dean Road and connecting streets & I fear for their safety. Turning Stone recently built a subdivision entry / exit point connecting to Dean Road & the traffic on Dean Road will only increase in the future.
Cibolo Valley Drive also needs repairs on the main roadway & we need to determine a solution to encourage the City of Schertz to widen & improve Wiederstein road from the Cibolo city border all the way up to I-35. Once TXDOT is done with the I-35 / FM 1103 bridge, they will be working on the I-35 / Wiederstein bridge next. Old Wiederstein road needs to be widened & improved also, but like Wiederstein Road, it is owned & controlled by our sister city, Schertz, so we have to work with their city leaders to come up with a solution to improve these roads for the benefit of both Cibolo & Schertz residents.
I understand that a survey is currently being conducted by an engineering firm to determine which roads are most in need of repair & improvement & what level of traffic each of our roads experience. Once the results of the survey are analyzed, I would like to help prioritize the list of roads & improve the roads in order based on most urgent need & by state of disrepair.
How do we pay for these road improvements? I encourage Cibolo voters to approve the reauthorization of a quarter percent sales tax to pay for city roads (Prop A). Why? If we don’t approve this quarter percent tax renewal, Guadalupe County & the State of Texas will implement it anyway & will use the funds for other roads in Guadalupe County &/or for Texas roads outside of Guadalupe County.
We also need to request funding for road improvements from AAMPO (Alamo Area Metropolitan Planning Organization).
Finally, we need to keep our existing roads safe. I will continue to work with Mayor Boyle to add speed humps along Green Valley Loop, the section of Green Valley Road leading into Schertz, & on Persimmon Road. I am also in favor of lowering the speed limit on the section of Green Valley that leads into Schertz from 25mph to 20mph. The residents in this area are very concerned about deer’s being hit by speeding cars & the potential for pedestrians to be hit while walking along this section of Green Valley road.
